Cultural heartland of Azerbaijan
Mountains, ancient fortresses, houses of worship belonging to different religions, Jidir plain, legendary Khudafarin bridge, umbrella waterfall, miraculous Istisu are pearls of Karabakh, one of the ancient historical regions in Azerbaijan. The word «Karabakh» was first mentioned in the 7th century. Lower jawbone of a Neanderthal man which is the fourth oldest archeological find in the world, revealed in result of excavations in the Azykh cave near the city of Fuzuli in Karabakh, proves that this area is one of the most ancient settlements in the world.
Karabakh is the cultural heartland of Azerbaijan. The Karabakh literary environment has played an undeniable role in Azerbaijani-Turkish culture and eternity. First time in the history of Azerbaijan’s culture, theatre, circus, concerts, music, printing house, library, college, seminary and intellectual institutions were established in Shusha city of Karabakh. Many world-famous Karabakh carpets are preserved and exhibited in world-famous museums.
