Kalbajar
Kalbajar, which is the highest mountainous region with dense forests, is located approximately 450 km west from Baku.
Kalbajar is famous for hundreds of mineral springs, rich in minerals, including deposits of gold and chromium. The fame of Istisu, Murov and Dalidag mountains is known to the world. The Kalbajar region is also rich in historical monuments that can attract the interest of tourists. There are various monuments dating back to the Albanian period. It is believed that the name of the village of Agdaban in Kalbajar refers to an ancient Albanian tribe. Rock carvings in Kalbajar are similar to stones with inscriptions and drawings in Gobustan and are considered their “twins”.
Although, during approximately 30-year occupation by Armenia, our national and cultural heritage was largely damaged and underground resources were exploited here, now Kalbajar is under control of Azerbaijan.
